While many researchers are familiar with the Tuskegee Airmen, black Civil War troops and Buffalo Soldiers, African American military service history actually began in colonial America. Genealogical researcher Kathleen Brandt will discuss the locations of veterans’ records including underutilized holdings of WW I and WW II collections. Your African American ancestors may even have served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection or other American conflicts. Follow the records trail to uncover your veterans’ military service.

Brandt is an international genealogy consultant, speaker and writer and has appeared on “Who Do You Think You Are” on TLC and NBC, and “Finding Your Roots” on PBS and the History channel.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Lauren
