I am emailing on behalf of the Mizzou Black Men’s Initiative (MBMI) to extend an invitation to join us for the first “Ndugu” event of the year which takes place on Monday, September 28th, 2015 from 6-7pm in the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center (GOBCC) on the Mizzou campus. Ndugu is Swahili for Brotherhood and the aim of the event is to strengthen ties amongst Black male undergraduates with graduate students, faculty/staff and community members. MBMI believes that the development of these relationships is crucial in propelling these young men through their collegiate career. Research shows that the development of supportive relationships is associated with successful college experiences for Black males.
We believe that your presence and interaction with these students will aid them throughout their collegiate journey. Please note that business casual dress is required and refreshments will be provided. Parking is available in the GOBCC’s parking lot (CG2) and in the Virginia Ave. Parking structure just south of the GOBCC’s parking lot or the Virginia Ave. We ask that attendee’s RSVP by Friday, September 25th, 2015 to Jonathan McElderry at firstname.lastname@example.org
Where: Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center (813 Virginia Ave., Columbia, MO 65201)
When: Monday, September 28th, 2015
Time: 6:00 – 7:00 pm
We appreciate your continued support of the MBMI program and look forward to seeing you at the event. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Also, if you know someone that may be interested in attending, please forward this email to them.
P.S. Please forward to other colleagues or friends as you see fit!
