Youth Aviation Day – Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum – 9.12.2015
A member of the St. Louis chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen shared the attached flyer for next month’s Youth Aviation Day. The event will take place at the St. Louis Air & Space Museum, located in Cahokia, IL, from 8:30am to 3:00pm. A Columbia community member is passing it along because someone in our network of acquaintances may have a child or grandchild or know some children who might be interested in taking a free flight in a propeller plane or learning about aviation.
The sponsor group, Gateway Eagles of Missouri (GEM), is made up African American and white pilots that have been together for years and are simply interested in reaching young people to introduce them to the field of aviation. Contrary to the nightly news, there are blacks and whites in St. Louis who have been and are still coming together for good. They even have simulator training one Saturday a month on a Cessna Prop plane, open to all ages.
The event is open to the public and there is no charge for admission. Youth, ages 8 to 17 fly free and receive a free lunch.
Check it out when you get a chance and if you think of anyone, please share freely.
